Melbourne’s IKON Park recently reopened as the new home of the Carlton Blues AFLW, after a two-year redevelopment project to transform it into a world-class sporting facility.
Features of this new state-of-the-art venue include a high-performance space, cardio gym and aquatic recovery area. But one new addition in particular stands out: the incredible 50 x 25m indoor training centre.
Anyone who has played sport or exercised indoors will know just how fast a room can become stifling. Air-conditioning barely makes a dent and air ventilation systems are ineffective in extreme heat, so for these AFL athletes, a more robust cooling solution was needed.
If you look closely, you’ll notice the Airius G560 Diamond fans suspended from the ceiling. Small and lightweight, yet incredibly powerful, these high-performance fans provide an effective and energy-efficient cooling system that is ideal for sports halls and stadiums.
The G560 Diamond model uses patented technology to create strong cooling air flow from floor to ceiling, improving the thermal comfort of all elite athletes training inside the centre. Their compact design allows the fans to fit into tight ceiling locations, and they are freely suspended to deflect impacts from moving objects (such as an AFL ball).
A similar solution was installed in January 2021 at the Ken Rosewall Arena at Sydney Olympic Park, in conjunction with a membrane cover roof structure designed by Cox Architects, to solve the overheating issue during the Australian summer of tennis.
Airius is proud to support some of Australia’s top athletes and sporting organisations by supplying effective and low-emission cooling solutions for these incredible venues.
